Membership

Professional membership in the Maine Local Government Human Resources Association (MLGHRA) is open to any city, town, or county employee in the State of Maine who has primary responsibility for the delivery of human resources functions within their organization. This includes human resources professionals and their deputies or assistants. Membership is also open to any quasi-governmental employee or school department employee working in the human resources field, as well as administrators and managers who are responsible for personnel management in local government organizations where no separate human resources function exists. Applicants who have been denied Professional membership may either join as an Associate member or appeal the decision by resubmitting their membership application along with a current job description.

Associate membership is open to individuals in the public sector who do not meet the criteria for Professional membership but who demonstrate a bona fide interest in human resource management and the mission of the Association. Associate members enjoy all the benefits of Professional membership, except that only Professional members of the Association are entitled to vote on Association business and serve on the Executive Board.

Professional and Associate Membership dues are $35.00 per fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Members may participate on the MLGHRA email listserv, which is a valuable tool for facilitating discussion and sharing best practices among those with similar questions, concerns, and interests. Members are also granted access to members-only resources on the website. MLGHRA offers multiple professional development opportunities on timely topics each year, including four 1-hour trainings and two comprehensive workshops. Members are welcome to attend meetings of the MLGHRA Executive Board to ask questions and share ideas. Individuals who are committed to sharing their time, expertise, and talents with other members are strongly encouraged to consider participating on various MLGHRA committees or to serve on the Executive Board in an Officer or Director At-Large capacity.

MLGHRA has been an invaluable resource for empowering HR professionals across the state – from Kittery to Madawaska. We hope to continue expanding and growing in ways that will add meaningful value to our current and future members. When you join MLGHRA, you become part of a diverse community of colleagues who share a similar interest – promoting sound personnel administration in Maine local government.
